Der mit 127 Quadratkilometern ehemals flächengrösste Bezirk Berlins, der durch seinen "Hauptmann von Köpenick" ( www.de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hauptmann_von_Köpenick ) Weltruhm erlangte, wurde wie viele andere historisch gewachsene Bezirke zwangsvereinigt und ist nun Teil des Doppelbezirks Köpenick-Treptow. Nichtsdestotrotz gibt es einen vom Verwaltungsdenken unabhängigen Lokalpatriotismus in den Köpfen der Köpenicker, die sich mehr noch als mit dem Bezirk mit ihren Ortsteilen identifizieren. Im Norden von der Bahnlinie Paris - Moskau und im Süden von Brauerei und Müggelsee begrenzt, bietet Friedrichshagen das ideale Biotop für Künstler, Handwerker, Freidenker und alle, die einen dörflich-intimen Lebensstil lieben und trotzdem nur eine halbe Stunde von der City Berlins entfernt wohnen möchten.
With its 127 square kilometres Köpenick was the biggest of the borroughs of Berlin and became famous because of the true story of the "Captain of Koepenick" in 1906( www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hauptmann_von_Köpenick ). Nowadays, for political and financial reasons, Köpenick was forced to unite with the borrough of Treptow, which made the area even bigger.
Nevertheless, people of Köpenick are always strongly identifying with their immediate locality, and so they are calling themselves after even the parts of Köpenick, where they live. My part - for that matter - is Friedrichshagen, with its abundance of forests, water, and its famous main street, the "Bölschestrasse". This street invites with ist green trees, its wide footpaths and dozens of little shops, restaurants and pubs. In the north it is touching the main railway line Paris - Moscow; in the south it ends at the local brewery and the "Müggelsee", Berlins biggest lake. Friedrichshagen is an ideal place to live for Artists, Craftspersons, Free Spirits, and all people who love to live an intimate village-life with the bustling City of Berlin only half an hour away.
Ein heisser Tip in der Friedrichshagener Bölschestrasse ist der Laden "Löwenherz", in dem man handgearbeiteten Schmuck und andere kleine Geschenke erstehen oder einiges sogar selber basteln kann. Die dort erhältlichen Kreationen sind weit über die Grenzen Berlins und Deutschlands hinaus bekannt und beliebt. Man bekommt von der Besitzerin Kathi und ihren Mitarbeiterinnen freundliche Beratung und kreative Anregungen.
A hot address in Friedrichshagen is the little shop with the big name, "Löwenherz" ("Lionheart") in Bölschestrasse No. 12. There you can avail of handcrafted romantic jewellery and other little presents. Kathi and her team will stand by with creative ideas and advice.
